Vontae Davis scouting report

Bio: Younger brother of Vernon Davis who stared at Maryland and was taken #6 overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft. Stand out football player at Dunbar High School in Washington D.C. Vontae is given credit for starting the D.C. recruiting pipeline to Illinois; three former teammates from Dunbar are now on scholarship with Illinois. Raised by his grandmother. Chose Illinois over Maryland, Virginia, and Michigan State.

Pros:
Exceptional athletic ability
Astounding closing speed
Punishing tackler
Ball skills
Size
Mental toughness

Cons:
Technique

Overall Thoughts: Vontae was blessed with superior athleticism that he uses to his full advantage to abuse college wide receivers. A rare cornerback prospect who could literally play any position in the secondary. Loves to chirp and loves to punish receivers. Vontae has shown consistently that he is willing to give up his body to deliver a devastating hit. Vontae fits into any scheme and any defense. His skill set screams NFL and he hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface of his potential. Best football is undoubtedly ahead of him. He is the most physical cornerback I have ever seen on tape. Reminds me a little of Brandon Flowers, but has the athletic ability and closing speed that makes him far and away a better prospect than Flowers could ever dream of being. He will be the #1 cornerback and defensive back on every single NFL teams board heading into next year. Whether he decides to come out or stay in school will be an intriguing story line to follow next season.

Prediction: If he wants to leave after his upcoming Junior Season he will undoubtedly be a top 15ish pick. Likely a top 10 pick.

Why did Vernon stare at Maryland? Did it have something in it's teeth?
